Six years ago, Mulungi Allen Nagawa was just another young Ugandan searching for direction. Today, she is a recognized tours and travel entrepreneur, preparing to host a red-carpet celebration at Hotel Africana on October 31 to mark her company’s sixth anniversary.

Her journey into the industry was anything but planned. Born in Nsambya, Lukuli, Mulungi grew up in a two-room home with six siblings. Her father, a Reverend, struggled to provide for the family before passing away, leaving her mother to hold things together.

She tried her hand at different ventures – selling merchandise, running a fruit stall, even attempting law school – all without success. The turning point came unexpectedly when she walked into Kampala’s Ambassador House hoping for NGO work, only to find a travel agency. With no prior experience, she threw herself into the business and quickly became a top marketer.

In 2019, she registered her own company, Mulungi Allen The Mighty Tours and Travel. Her early international trips flopped, but she pressed on with smaller local tours. The COVID-19 pandemic nearly ended her dream, forcing her to scale back while mourning the loss of her father.

Her resilience paid off. By 2023, she was successfully organizing trips to Dubai and Europe, securing trusted clients such as Mirembe Beddings and Nsambya Furniture. She counts taking her mother to Dubai among her proudest moments.

“I was born without a sense of smell, but I can smell my destiny clearly,” she says.

This October, Mulungi’s story comes full circle. The six-year anniversary gala at Hotel Africana will bring together corporate partners, clients, and fellow entrepreneurs. Organizers promise an evening of glamour with live performances, success stories, and a tribute to her late father.

For many in Uganda’s travel sector, the event will be more than a party – it will be a symbol of survival, growth, and the power of faith-driven entrepreneurship.
