The highly anticipated retreat brought together hundreds of boda boda riders and leaders from across the country, with the aim of fostering unity, discipline, and professional growth in the sector.

The event was graced by Gen. Salim Saleh, who served as the Guest of Honor, underscoring the importance of the boda boda industry in Uganda’s economic and social development.

During her session, Ms. Kamira Gloria emphasized the dangers of drug and substance abuse, particularly among young riders. She shared insights on how drug use not only affects physical and mental health, but also undermines safety on the roads, increases accident risks, and contributes to broader societal challenges.

“Our youth, especially in the transport sector, must understand that drug abuse is not only harmful to their health but also to their livelihoods and families. We need to tackle this issue from the grassroots,” Ms. Kamira said.

Her remarks were met with applause and appreciation from both riders and fellow stakeholders, many of whom echoed her call for more mental health support and awareness campaigns tailored to the boda boda community.
Organized by Uganda Union Boda Boda and supported by Operation Wealth Creation (OWC), the retreat served as a platform for empowerment, education, and collaboration, aiming to transform the perception and operations of the boda boda sector in Uganda.
