The 2025 edition of the Pearl of Africa Tourism Expo (POATE) kicked off in grand style on Wednesday at Speke Resort Munyonyo, welcoming tourism leaders, cultural enthusiasts, and international delegates to one of Uganda’s premier tourism events. With an electric atmosphere and a rich display of Uganda’s heritage, the four-day expo promises to be a celebration of culture, commerce, and creativity.

The opening day began with an energetic showcase of tourism and cultural operators who transformed the venue into a hub of discovery. In the afternoon, the official opening ceremony titled “Sounds of the Pearl” captivated audiences with a powerful blend of traditional and modern performances. The cultural showcase was a sensory journey through Uganda’s heritage, and it set a vibrant tone for the days ahead.

Navio, one of Uganda’s most celebrated hip-hop artists, took the stage by storm, opening his set with a Karamojong-inspired number before thrilling the crowd with his iconic hit “Njogeraza.” His performance ignited the room, bridging cultural tradition with contemporary rhythm. The evening was brought to a dazzling close by rising star Tracy Melon, whose soulful performance left guests in awe and firmly established her as a voice to watch in Uganda’s music scene.
